9th of May - Cusco to Nasca...never ending - 680km 11h20

Well, I thought 680km good road from Cusco to Nasca couldn't be that bad and could be done within one day. We did it within one day but in between I thought we would never reach Nasca.

I don't know how many passes over 4.000m we crossed, just amazing and exhausting. But the various landscapes were the reward. When we reached Puquio at 4.30pm we should have stopped. But somehow I was so disappointed. We were now for more than 9 hours on the road and we were still or again on a height of 3.400m.

I thought we could reach the coastal line and a more relaxing climate...So we pushed further and of course we were soon in the dark. Really dark, there is no lamp, no village, nothing on the altiplano. Yes, after Puquio we drove up, up, up again on approx. 4.100 we crossed over the altiplano for an hour, pitchdark and freezing cold. 60km before Nasca we were still on 4.000m, exhausting. Many trucks were now on the road, horrible overtaking maneuvers on the serpentines down to Nasca.

That night we took a hotel in Nasca and we had a dreamless sleep...:-)

Again on 4.300m. How the people live here.
