7th of May - Hidroelectrica to Cusco - 210km 6h21

« Back to journal
Already at 6am we sneaked out of our hostal in Pueblo Machu Picchu and started our 12km walk back at the railway line to Hidroelectrica. Again no breakfast. The cool morning air was still pleasant and we met no one on the first 6 km. At a small restaurant in the jungle we asked for coffee and the old man prepared for us with lovely care. All "bio" from his backyard and he explained as well how he prepares the fresh beans until one can serve them as coffee. The coffee in Bolivia and as well here in Peru tastes quite different. They don't know or use the sophisticated roasting methods used in Europe.

Back in Cusco

From Mr. Escobar at Hidroelectrica we picked our bike and our clothes, packed and started our way back thru Santa Theresa and the single lane gravel road back to Santa Maria. We were lucky that we didn't meet many cars on this narrow road which was also my intention and hope with the early start in the morning. Again we had to cross the icy and foggy pass towards the Urubamba valley. In Cusco we checked in in the same hostal. First we wanted to move already in the direction of Nasca. But time ran to fast.
