From Munich to Barnaul I covered a distance of 10.600km. At “Bikeland Russia” in Barnaul I made now my service of the motorbike: tires, oil and filters.

My tires I picked at the transport company Dmitry from Krasnodar had chosen. Thanks again man!

I am sweating now, 30°C outside and nearly every day there is a thunderstorm in the late afternoon. On Friday I got locked by thunderstorm in a snack bar pavilion and I watched with fascination how the water took its way down the road, a 10cm high stream washing everything away. Hours after such a thunderstorm people still have to jump over puddles or find their way around small ponds. This about the road and pavement conditions in Russia. And as soon the last raindrop has fallen the cottonwood seeds are back…everywhere…it is like in winter.

Yesterday I had to send a letter to Canada. To organize the print out was the easy part…to get an envelope cost me some iteration cycles, to wait at the Russian Post was an experience. Only 2 Persons in front of me, happy me…The second person had 10 letters, each of them took around 5 min to process...wow. They put several postmarks, the stamps, a sticker, typed the stuff into the system, put some handwritten comments on the envelope…done!

When it was finally my turn it took 10min to process my letter, in the end a really colorful Picasso (or better Hundertwasser) on which was not one single white spot left:-) You see, that’s the difference to Germany. In Germany you enter the post office, I mean you try to enter because the cue starts already outside of the building, then you have to wait 50 min until it is your turn, but then it takes only 2 min to process your letter/ Einschreiben. Time-wise about the same. We are so efficient over there in Germany:-)

By the way I have to promote a book which is really a joyful read: “Plato and a Platypus walk into a bar” written by Thomas Cathcart & Daniel Klein, Penguin Books. Understanding philosophy through jokes. That’s it!

A couple of times I burst out laughing, tears in my eyes that the people around in the restaurant must have thought I went nuts :-)

I plan my next move on Monday to Kosh-Agach, the driest village in Russia…end of world atmosphere they say…or maybe end of Russia? From there it is 70km to the border of Mongolia.

Ust Kamenogorsk (Öskemen)

At  the warehouse of the transport company...cool car! :-) My KTM carton with my tires in the back...happy that I got them

Barnaul

Bikeland Russia team: Very friendly!
