31st of Jan to 3rd of Feb - continued problems in Puerto Natales

While the motorbike was with Alejandro del Lago, the mechanic on la Calle Ona in Pta Arenas we made a walk out of town. Once up on the hills we didn't meet any people anymore...nice but windy up there.

A friendly ranger brought us back to the city and we picked up the bike at Alejandro's workshop. The garage looks great but of course he doesn't have spare parts for KTM. So we couldn't fix the clutch. KTM Santiago asked me which parts are exactly broken in order to sent them in. It could be the gaskets, joints or the master/ slave cylinder...another 3-4 it would have taken to sent them down to Pta Arenas. We decided against it and with a little bit compressor oil in the pocket for refilling the clutch from time to time we left the garage.

And they cleaned and washed the bike..wow. I guess even with a toothbrush.

I think the mirrors looked that clean only when I bought the bike 4 years ago

I present the new tire. :-) And the number plate...actually I don't like it that clean :-)

When we left Pta Arenas in sunshine we saw the Aida in the harbor. The Germans are everywhere :-)
On the 250km to Puerto Natales we got really bad weather. Icy rain and storm and the motorbike didn't run well. Something wrong with the throttle response. On the way we stopped at a small Kiosk and I went thru all mechanic parts + washed the air filter with gasoline because Alejandro put to much oil on the filter. On the further ride still the same problems...Hmmm.

At a Swiss owned pension we asked for a mechanic in Purto Natales. A tour guide who heard our conversation brought us to Samuel, a very congenial guy. The next two days we spent at his workshop. During that time we met the whole neighborhood. From motorbikes over lawn movers and outboard motors they brought everything to Samuel. He is THE mechanic in this village. The two days failure search on the bike brought finally a result: The fine holes of the injector were partially blocked. Our guess was on too much motoroil which went the wrong way up into the system.

An old picture of the Selk'nam or Ona which we saw at a Hostal

Puerto Natales impressions

Test run with the bike: All well! Here we are close to the Milodon Cave and we found out that the next day we would have to start early for our trip to the Torres del Paine national park. Due to road contruction work they close the gravel road between 10 am and 21 pm.
