From the Mirador de los Condores we left at approx. 10am. The 40km gravel road back to Chivay went well except that I didn’t feel good at all because I caught bad cold two days before. My eyes burned, my nose run and I felt weak. But another night in Shivay? No, I wanted to move on, no matter how far we could go. The next 40 km to Sibayo were even paved (what a gift) but then 140km earth track followed over three passes, 4.700m, 4.800m and 4.600m until we reached a big mine close to Espinar.
I tried to drive against the time but no way that we would be able to reach Cusco in daylight. It was pitch dark when we were still 30km outside of town. Horrible... trucks, buses, blinding dirt in the air, traffic jam…landing in big cities in the darkness is always a sh___.
After Sibayo the landscape changes..
...and after one climbs the Altiplano
People live up here on 4.500m. Live stock is essential for them to survive on these heights.
Cusco..."immer eine Reise wert" :-)
The Spanish plundered and destroyed everything in their gold rush...and built their churches on the remains of the Inka temples
A cultural evening with traditional dances...coincidentally and a highlight for us
