2nd of March - Villarrica via Lonquimay to "Fundo Nancy" - exhausting 303km

On the map we found a National Park close to the west coast. And I found a red star marking the Rio Bio Bio area as a highlight. Why not connecting both, driving thru the backdoor to the Rio Bio Bio and continue to the National Park? That is what we tried and what did we get? The 200km up to Lonquimay were tarmac. After Lonquimay (somehow sounds like Thai?:-) we were on gravel, as I expected. A couple of times we had to ask for the right track...after the ten houses village Trojo we were first on the wrong track. A gaucho explained that we shouldn't have crossed the bridge and we should take a small tunnel on the left hand side and continue todo derecho. We found the tunnel with earth based surface which can be used maximum by one of these small trucks with their narrow wheelbase, one-way of course. A dirt track followed and after a gate it got worse...but at a certain point you don't want to return because you think, it cannot get worse. It got. The way up on the mountain through forest was "Romanian style" - what we do in summertime with our small motorbikes (Enduros). A washed out cart track up up up with big stones, dust, hard and soft surface changing constantly...and this now with 2 persons and luggage. Somehow we made it on the top. The way down on the other side Ying partially walked after we fall the first time on the side on these potato size stones.

Here the world and the way is still ok :-)

Not the worst part but maybe gives an impression of the nice way we found. One cannot see the steepness on the photo, looks like peanuts...

Ying exploring...

End of journey, for today. It was already after 7 pm and approx. 100km offroad when we arrived at the second gate. Nancy, the tenant (renter) came to the locked gate and explained to us how far we still would have to drive and that we also had to cross a river. Approx. 30 m wide and thigh deep - Oh no! She convinced us to put our tent on their farm. Her husband and her small son were still out on the horse - somewhere on their (big) land. We ate a bit and soon it was pitch dark. No electricity. We were not in the mood to unpack our things, so we just slept in our motorbike clothes. Later in the night I heard the dogs barking and the horses snuffle, her husband and son arrived...how they find their way in this kind of darkness. I guess the horses know. The Milky Way was impressing.
