Vilcabamba, famous for longevity. Rumours about people who got 120 years old are not confirmed, however many people over 80 shall live here.
And also lots of Americans, a community of over 800 meanwhile.
The Izhcayluma Hostal in Vilcabamba is really a beautiful resort. Cabanas built into the nature of he hills with the view over Vilcabamba and the whole valley. Two Bavarians living here since 16 years set up a small "empire" with lot of care and love.
Our first hike in the surrounding hills
Our second hike on the "Mandango" mountain even though not recommended to go alone. So we took Dana and Felix with us :-)
Up to the first cross it is an easy walk
A tarantula...but the camera didn't forcus well.
Also here the camera failed.
In fact later on our hike we had soooo many big spiders hanging in their webs, their threads thick and strong as fishing lines.
On the way down from the mountain we had to crawl thru bushes and small trees full of them. Dana hyperventilated each time she had to cross under such spiders. But also for the others it was "quiet an experience". I went first and a couple of times I just ran into a web or a connecting thick thread, which would not even tear, so strong...
A beeyard
A snake in my way or vice versa. Each time today while photographing an animal the camera failed..or maybe the nervous user?! :-)
A second snake we saw 5 min later...a bit dangerous terrain.
The complete tour over the Mandango and back over the ridge in the foreground on one photo. I took this shot from our cabana.
Last pics of the resort...we have to leave!
