A step further towards the border to Ecuador is San Ignacio.
One should do border crossings - especially remote ones - in the morning in order to have reserve if things take longer than expected. That is what I learned on my last trip thru the east.
This is the reason why we decided for another stay in San Ignacio only 45 min away from the border.

On the way to San Ignacio we passed a lot of rice plantations

San Ignacio is a small village though bigger than expected with basically one hotel to go for: The Gran Hotel.
Gran but not that Gran, but a really nice place to stay.
