25th of May - Pimentel to Jaen - approx. 280km 5h

First about Pimentel:

Before heading for the choosen remote border crossing thru the jungle into Ecuador we wanted to spend another one or two days on the beach.

As we approached on the Panamerica the town Chiclayo we were shocked by tons of garbage left and right of the road. Partially burning, black vultures circling above...apocalyptic sentiment.

Peru is regrettably NOT a tidy place like all the other countries in South America we passed as well. But the roads around Chiclayo topped everything. I am still angry about myself: I should have taken photos and sent them to the Peruvian government.

So we tried to pass Chiclayo on the Atlantic side and went more or less thru its backyard to San Jose, which turned out to be a small fisher village, but nothing else. And sadly also garbage left and right of the road
A bit frustrated we went about 8km south again (thru garbage) and found Pimentel, which at the beach side is pretty tidy and is mostly for people who own an appartment here.
We found a relatively nice hostal with parking on the street behind the beachfront

Pimentel beach boulevard :-))

Pimentel further down the beach. We "made friends" with this village and stayed here for 3 days...

The fishermen just knee on these boats. The paddle is just a quarter of a big bamboo. Amazing.

On the road again to Jaen in the jungle:

Many landslides on our way to Jaen

View from our hotel on the street. Many Tuc Tucs. The houses often not finished with a brick facing.

"Point of interest" :-) We tried to find a new rubber sealring for my tank in Jaen. The people here love motorbikes especially foreign ones.
