24th of October 2011 – Ko Samui to Phang Nga, 270km

Ying flew home the night before. I left Ko Samui early in the morning. Before I reached Thap Put I decelerated a bit and took a right turn right into a palm grove and after 500m I was on a beautiful cart track through other palm groves and caoutchouc plantages. From Thap Put I took the H4 in a wide circle towards Phang Nga. A very nice road - though not the fastest way to Phang Nga - through the mountains, nice curves and hairpin bends up a pass and down again.

25th of October – Phang Nga to Ao Nang/Krabi, 131km

I took my time for this part and I drove through plantations of caoutchouc and palms (all for palm oil) towards the coast + tried to find a way on the coastal line towards Krabi. It didn’t work out that way, so I drove a couple of times towards the sea and if I got stuck I tried to find another way out heading eastwards and south. Beautiful landscape with all these limestone rocks with unbelievable steep faces covered partially with vegetation. Late in the afternoon I arrived in Ao Nang.

The small "Walkulla springs" (Florida) somewhere in the jungle on the way to Ao Nang

Even though I didn't take a longtail boat tourist trip to the "James Bond island" I got some good views of the scenery. Maybe even better ones...:-)

amazing...

Krabi area wih its "unreal" geological formation

Krabi, Railay beach...a paradise at risk (also East Railay and Tonsai). The beaches and rocks are wonderful but if you look behind the scenes...garbage, plastic trash and dirt piling up behind huts and too much construction works ongoing. How many more tourists they want to bring here every day with the noisy longtail boats?

29th of October – Ao Nang to Phuket, 190km

come on...Phuket is not that bad :-)

some weather comes...
