20th of Dec until 24th of Jan 2012 - stranded on Bali

« Back to journal
Tja, what shall I say? During a 250km tour on Bali together with Ying the electronic bug of my motorbike got “bigger”, I mean worse.

Since 10 days we (an Italian mechanic in Denpasar (in the past also service team for Honda in the 1986 Dakar rally) and myself) try to sort out the problem. No results yet. Also our internet research gave no concrete hints.

In 2 forums I placed a “help letter”: I got a lot of responses and the people were very helpful; a lot of hints, tricks and one guy from Austria sends us now an open software including cable to dig deeper...and I run out of time: My visa will expire on the 24th of January…it is getting exciting.

Update will follow soon.

Play of colors on Seminyak beach

...including laser pointer. Sometimes you don't know where to look because they are "shooting" around.

Preparation for the road again

..not the copilot. :-)

"Affenbande". What is there behind the ear?

Cute.

The next thunderstorm in paradise will come soon

Bali - Hindu impressions

Learning the Bali dance

Local beach life is all about food...

There are always temple ceremonies. The daily routine of the Balinese is detrmined by sacrificial offerings.

Agung Batur

We went up this lonely way to the foot of the volcano Batur...and suddenly we were in the middle of a gathering for a ceremony

Lake Batur. When I Iooked at the scenery I thought that these fish farms are too much for this lake. And also the agriculture around the Batur.
A couple of days later I read an article in the newspaper about the installation of a team investigating now the excessive pollution in this area.

singing in his dugout canoe

another version..

Puuh...hot again.

And here it happened...first the throttle didn't go back to idle + after restart of the motor, the motor made a hell of a noise...popping and banging as if there is no exhauster.

So we "popped and banged" our way through these small fisher villages in the North East of Bali. Open mouths everywhere, the daily routine came to a sudden halt...anyway not many tourists come to this area but something like this they might have never seen (heard) before :-)

Action in Luciano's garage

One of the smaller bugs :-)

The next festival approaches...

Because of no conclusive results on the motorbike we moved for a week to Gili Air, an island at the north tip of Lombok.
No cars and no scooters allowed, such a peaceful island. On one side of the island there is infrastructure with restaurants, bars and smaller hotels...on the other side of the island there is nearly nothing, so relaxing and the people very friendly. But land is on sale...in ~5 years one wouldn't recognize this paradise again.

Views on Lombok (from the Gilis)

On menu: magic mushroom :-))

In paradise...translating manuals, documents and inputs from the internet from German into English for the ongoing motorbike troubleshooting in Denpasar

Hmmm...will there be a boat today...or not? Speedboat services were terminated because of storm and heavy sea. The day before water rushed in the back of one of the speedboats and people panicked. The water police terminated the service for an unknown time.

In the end it took us 12 hours for the transfer back to Bali...

...first step of the long journey back to Bali, a small boat took us to Lombok

Ok, but how? Rusty ferries...until their very last journey; hopefully not.

Back on Bali, making new friends :-)
