From Avaikheer to Ulaan Baatar - 440km, all asphalt
We reached Ulaan Baatar at around 4pm and a dust cover hovering over the city gave us a first impression. The road into UB was under construction and everywhere dust, sand, gravel and potholes.
Without observing any rules we made our way into the city overtaking left and right, surfing around the cars & trucks which tried to avoid the potholes. In the city center we got stuck in a traffic jam and it took us another 45min to reach the guesthouse Oasis which is approx. 7km east of the city center.
And it is really an oasis: we sleep in a ger in the garden of the guesthouse and most of the daytime we sit on the terrace, go online, exchange experiences with the other motor bikers and each one of us works on his own plans.
Definite is that we will all go different ways from here.
We met the Italians again (they got lost with their GPS exactly at the same spot), 2 bikers from Belgium (one of them cures his accident and repairs his motorbike), Olaf from Germany (came from Vladivostok and is now on his way back to Germany; the south route via Georgia) and today 2 other Italians. 2 young backpacker tourists from Munich were here as well, but one of them flew back yesterday morning to Germany because he couldn’t cure his deteriorating diarrhea.
Since 2 days we have continuous rain and all roads are flooded. Some water also found its way into our ger…Yesterday evening we jumped over puddles and streams of water on the street between the cars when I suddenly felt that something dropped out of my pocket. With my hands I searched the 25cm deep running brown water and I found my mobile before it was washed away. It was still on and I ripped the battery out of it in order to avoid a short. I dried it overnight and this engineering marvel works! :-)
everywhere dust...
WE MADE IT TO ULAAN BAATAR!!! Yeah!
