14th of June until 26th of June - Mompiche, Sua, Atacames, Mindo

On the way from Canoa to Mompiche, another village on the beach approx. 120km north

Somewhere on the way north we crossed the Equator. Unspectacular because no sign, no hint. When I looked on the GPS it showed already 00 00 224.
That was two years ago in Indonesia quite different. When I crossed that time under the sign post it was an overwhelming feeling.

Arrival in Mompiche; restless...stay here or move on..? If it is high tide there is no beach.

Moonwalker :-) On the run for the most suitable hostal

Tons of fish they caught. The pose of the guy with the rolled up T-shirt, showing his belly is some sort of "standard" in South America. Funny, in Asia as well.
Beautiful, or ?? :-))

At Playa Negra, approx. 2 km south of Mompiche

Aha, someone's house!

On the way further up north we followed the coastal line. A beautiful road thru the jungle and small fisher villages.

In Sua we saw this small grasshopper

Atacames...behind the main square

Arrival in Mindo, a village in the cloud forest more inland on the way to Quito. One hour before we arrived the power was cut off. Completely. On that day they made everything possible for the Ecuador football match. With generator and satelite TV. Only two locations in the village to see the game. In the night we nearly didn't find the way home; pitchdark. The next day we wanted to see Germany/ US but still no power and no efforts were made...good, we visited instead the Mariposas farm and some waterfalls in the jungle.

The butterflies eclose from their cocoons

Some cocoons look like green leaves, others like dry leaves or these one's like waterdrops, from those butterflies which live close to the water

Shisha, my first and last one. Not me smoking here...Felix giving a better picture :-)
Some special mix from Mindo the bartender told us...headache and sore throat next day inclusive.
