10th of March - Valparaiso to Santiago and "stuck"

- to be continued -
Now we have a mandatory break in Santiago. I tried to arrange the motorbike service beforehand but when we arrived at KTM Santiago we were told that they would need 7 days because of the additional check on the valves. At the Sony service center I was told that they would need 8 days for the cleaning of my object lens.
However the new tires we got right away at Mototouring (not the first time in Chile that we stood in front of a normal house in a living area and we couldn’t believe what was behind the garden gate: a machine for mounting and also balancing the tires, electronic injector cleaner etc. and brand-new motorbike clothes, boots and helmets). Excellent service has of course its price but I got my favorite TKC80 tires.
At Touratech we were also lucky and “el jefe” organized a welding job for free at BMW Motorbikes next door. For welding the broken aluminum box we went to the recommendation of Carlos from Mototouring, to Gaston who is close to KTM. Our things now are well distributed over Santiago..:-)
We had to change our hostal accordingly. Originally we thought that we would stay in Santiago for 3 days only but now we got a “prolongation” of a week plus which means we have to cut costs.
Currently the “Olimpicos Nacionales de America del Sur” are taking place in Chile. On Sunday we saw the racing bicycle competition through the city and over the Cerro San Cristobal. Quite a logistic challenge to stop and divert the traffic flow through this mega city but a big relieve as well for this smog plagued town (and us).
And on Sunday morning as well I told Ying in the morning that I felt the house shaking a bit for a couple of seconds. Today Ying read about the earthquake at Chile’s coast approx. 2.000km far away. I really hope that we will not have any closer experience.

Too many drinks?? :-)

Santiago...

The 6.000 m mountain range right in the backyard

Mercado Central - the fish market. The restaurants under the metal roof construction form the 18th century "Touri Nepp"! One can find better (and much cheaper) places in Santiago.

Thought-provoking art...Die Ankunft des weißen Mannes in Südamerika.

Complaining: Even without the motorbike greasy hands! :-) We rented mountain bikes for a day and went around and up the Cerro Christobal with its Maria Virgin on top. One can choose from asphalt roads up to hardcore downhill trails...

Autumn "arrived" also here! Time to leave...
